Overview

Inspection and Verification

. Verify the customer concern.

. Visually inspect for obvious mechanical or electrical faults.

. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.

. Use the approved diagnostic system or a scan tool to retrieve any DTCs before moving onto the symptom chart or DTC index.

Symptom Chart

Door(s) will not open from outside
  • Exterior door handle condition/installation
  • Exterior release cable disconnected from exterior door handle or door latch
  • Door latch failure
Check the exterior door handle condition and installation. Check the condition and security of the exterior release cable. Check the operation of the latch.
Door(s) will not open from inside
  • Child lock(s) engaged
  • Interior door handle condition/installation
  • Interior release cable disconnected from interior door handle or door latch
  • Door latch failure
Check that the child locks are disengaged. Check the interior door handle condition and installation. Check the condition and security of the interior release cable. Check the operation of the latch.
The message center indicates that the hood, the tailgate or a door is open when it appears to be closed
  • Incorrect striker alignment/adjustment
  • Ajar switch circuit short circuit to ground
  • Ajar switch failure
Check/adjust the strikers as necessary. Check for DTCs indicating an ajar switch fault. Refer to the DTC index.
Vehicle indicates a mislock when the hood, tailgate and doors appear to be closed
Fuel flap does not lock/unlock
  • Fuel flap cable detached from body
  • Fuel flap actuator detached from mounting bracket
  • Fuel flap actuator disconnected
  • Fuel flap actuator failure
Check the condition and installation of the fuel flap cable. Check the security of the fuel flap actuator and bracket. Check the security of the actuator electrical connector. Check for DTCs indicating a fuel flap actuator fault. Refer to the DTC index.

  Generic scan tools may not read the codes listed, or may read only 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool to the first 5 digits of the 7-digit code listed to identify the fault (the last 2 digits give extra information read by the manufacturer-approved diagnostic system).

  • Master central lock switch signal circuit short circuit to ground

Refer to the electrical guides and check the master switch lock circuit. Check the switch operation, renew as necessary.
B1C3823 Master Unlock Switch Stuck
  • Master central unlock switch signal circuit short circuit to ground
  • Master central unlock switch stuck/jammed
  • Master central unlock switch failure
Refer to the electrical guides and check the master switch unlock circuit. Check the switch operation, renew as necessary.
B1C3923 Key Lock Switch Stuck
  • Key lock switch stuck/jammed
  • Key lock switch circuit short to ground (where connected)
  • Key lock switch failure
  • Internal CJB fault
Refer to the electrical guides and ensure there are no wires connected to the SJB connector on the key lock switch circuit. Clear the DTC and retest. If the DTC returns, suspect an internal fault with the CJB. If no other DTCs are present, ignore this fault.
B1C4023 Key Unlock Switch Stuck
  • Key unlock switch stuck/jammed
  • Key unlock switch failure
  • Key unlock switch circuit short to ground (where connected)
  • Internal CJB fault
Refer to the electrical guides and ensure there are no wires connected to the SJB connector on the key unlock switch circuit. Clear the DTC and retest. If the DTC returns, suspect an internal fault with the CJB. If no other DTCs are present, ignore this fault.
B1C4123 Tailgate Release Switch #1
  • Tailgate SW1 (Switch-tail door open) release circuit short to ground
  • Tailgate release switch stuck/jammed
  • Tailgate release switch failure
Refer to the electrical guides and check the tailgate SW1 unlock circuit. Check the switch operation, renew as necessary.
B1C4223 Tailgate Release Switch #2
  • Tailgate glass release switch (SW2- number plate lamp and tail door switch) signal circuit short circuit to ground
  • Tailgate glass release switch stuck/jammed
  • Tailgate glass release switch failure
Refer to the electrical guides and check the tailgate SW2 unlock circuit. Check the switch operation, renew as necessary.
B1C6312 Master Interior Lamp Switch Stuck
  • Interior lamp circuit short to ground
  • Interior lamp switch fault
Refer to the electrical guides and check the interior lamp circuit. Check the switch operation, renew as necessary.
B1C6314 Driver Door Lock Relay Coil Circuit
  • Driver door lock relay coil circuit short to ground or open circuit

If no customer complaint issue exists with tailgate operation, no action necessary, clear/ignore DTC. If tailgate functionality is incorrect, refer to the electrical guides and check the tailgate circuit, repair as necessary.
